FCT SET TO REVITALIZE ENVIRONMENT

The Federal Capital Territory’s Health and Environment Secretariat has stated that the new Administration under the leadership of Barrister Nyesom Wike will revitalize the FCT Environment.

This was made known by the Mandate Secretary, Health and Environment Secretariat Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe during a meeting with Environmental stakeholders in Federal Capital Territory Administration ( FCTA).

While addressing the stakeholders made up of Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) FCT Water Board, Parks and Recreation Department the Mandate Secretary harped on the need for aggressive advocacy and sensitization on Global Warming.

According to Dr. Fasawe the sensitization should be centered on the need to inculcate the use of “Green Energy” to reduce carbon emission and air pollution which are detrimental to our health.

Quoting the FCT Minister who said:

“When you hate green, you hate yourself”

the Mandate Secretary said this statement is a booster to her resolve to revitalize FCT’s environment to make it more conducive and habitable for it’s inhabitants.

Furthermore, Dr Fasawe hammered on the need to exploit the massive landscape of FCT with a “Green FCT Policy” in a bid to revitalize the environment and promote healthy living.

In order to address the menace of indiscriminate grazing of cattles in the City Center, the Mandate Secretary recommended the establishment of a grazing area suitable for Grazers and their life stocks outside the City Center metropolis.

Again, Dr Fasawe in order to drive home her agenda towards a greener FCT inquired from the Director, AEPB Engr. Osilama Braimah the enforcement of Environment Impact Assessment before and after construction of buildings in the FCT, the waste management structure set in place by the board and it’s dumpsite capacity.

In a bid to familiarize with the workings of the Secretariat, Dr Fasawe also tasked the Heads of Agencies,Boards, Departments and Unit under the purview of the Health and Environment Secretariat to make a presentation of their designation and expectations noting the key point indicators using the provided template.

In his remark, the Director AEPB affirmed that the board enforces Enviromental impact Accessment (EIA) before building construction and that FCT has a waste management mechanism in place which is the FCT dumpsite that caters to the waste management of the populace.
