COVID-19 Market Demolished

The Fct Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES) through the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) has demolished the COVID-19 market at Area 11 after a two-month notice to traders to return to major markets. Director of the board Engr. Osi Braimah clarified the market’s temporary purpose during COVID-19, expressed concerns over shanties becoming criminal hideouts, and called for land use compliance.

This is in compliance to the directive from the Hon. Minister of FCT, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to scale up activities in removing shanties and other illegal settlements primarily to improve the city sanitation and also cater for the attendant problem of insecurity.”
