Maitama Hospital Gets Full Accreditation To Train Resident Doctors
The Senate of the National Postgraduates Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) has approved a full scale accreditation for for the training of Resident Doctors in the Family Medicine Department of Maitama District Hospital.
The National Postgraduates Medical College of Nigeria gave this approval at it 130th meeting after considering the recommendation of it Board for Family Medicine.
The full accreditation covers for a period of five years, to train three senior residents and nine junior residents in family medicine in Maitama District Hospital of the Federal Capital Territory.
This approval was contained in a latter signed by the College Registrar, Dr. F.A. Arogundade, and made available to Abuja Digest Thursday.
According to the letter, the Panel considered the programmes and facilities in place at the Maitama District Hospital, whilst the Senate approved that Maitama District Hospital should be awarded the full accreditation.
Speaking over this feat recorded, the Medical Director of Maitama District Hospital, Dr. Igbinovia Imuetinyan, explained that basically Maitama District Hospital has been training up services not only the tertiary care but in advancing the quality of Doctors in the Hospital.
His words:”One of the ways the Hospital does that is by training of doctors and consultants specialists. But in the department of family Medicine it was having a partial accreditation. This is the first time in the history of Maitama District Hospital that it is getting a full accreditation for Family Medicine from The National Postgraduates Medical College of Nigeria.”
He expressed delight of the Management of the Hospital for this landmark achievement; saying, the development is part of the things put in place by the present Administration of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and the Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe.
Dr. Igbinovia recalled that the Secretary on assumption of duty, promised to make things happen positively to improve service delivery in the FCT Health sector.
“The Administration of Nyesom Wike has always maintained that the equality of service delivery in the health sector is as good as the quality of the Doctors. It is on this, that the Secretary thought it in the best interest of the FCT residents to improve the quality of the Health practitioners”, he added.
